Amazon's Alexa+ AI Launches in India with Hindi Support & Free Early Access

Amazon has officially launched Alexa+ in India, bringing its generative AI-powered assistant to the country after months of testing. The rollout puts Amazon directly into the growing race to make voice-based AI more useful for Indian households, with Hindi and Hinglish support available from day one.

Alexa+ arrives in India with a much bigger AI push

Amazon says Alexa+ is designed to move beyond traditional voice commands and hold more natural conversations while helping users complete tasks. The assistant can help with shopping, music discovery, schedule management, meal planning and smart-home controls, with restaurant reservations, travel planning and booking also planned for the future.

The India launch is also heavily focused on local language use. Alexa+ supports English, Hindi and Hinglish, while Amazon says additional Indian languages are coming later. That matters in a market where people routinely switch between languages during everyday conversations rather than sticking to formal English or Hindi.

Amazon is making Alexa+ available in India through Early Access at no cost on eligible Echo smart speakers, smart displays, Fire TV devices and the Alexa mobile app. The company says Indian customers have interacted with Alexa more than nine billion times over the past 12 months, giving the new assistant a sizeable existing user base to build on.

Alexa+ faces a different challenge in India

The bigger test may not be whether Alexa+ can answer questions. It is whether Amazon can make conversations feel genuinely natural across India’s accents, languages and code-switching habits. Amazon executives say the India version has been specifically tuned to understand local intent and cultural context rather than simply translating an existing experience.

Speaking of competition, Alexa+ arrives as Google, OpenAI and Indian AI companies push conversational assistants across phones and other devices. Amazon already has millions of Alexa-enabled devices in Indian homes, which may give Alexa+ a useful starting point.
