Another GTA 6 Release Date Delay Wouldn't Shock a Former Rockstar Dev

While the hype around GTA 6 Trailer 3 continues to pick up, a few words from a former Rockstar Games developer might be the last thing fans want to hear.

Mike York thinks 6+ months of delay in GTA 6 release date wouldn’t be shocking

According to indy100, citing comments made by former Rockstar Games animator Mike York during an interview with Covers.com, another delay for GTA 6 shouldn’t be ruled out. In fact, York says he “would not be shocked at all” if Rockstar decides the game needs more time before launch.

York made it clear that he no longer works at Rockstar Games. Because of that, he stressed he has no inside information about GTA 6’s current development. Instead, his comments are based entirely on his previous experience working at the studio during GTA 5’s development.

According to York, Rockstar has always prioritized quality over release dates. If developers believe important missions still require polishing or critical bugs remain unresolved, he believes the studio would have no problem delaying the game again.

He added that Rockstar is in a unique position where players would likely continue waiting if the studio felt extra development time was necessary. In his view, protecting the final quality of the game matters more than meeting a planned launch date.

Rockstar has made delays before, but Take-Two CEO has reaffirmed release date in the recent past

Rockstar originally planned to release GTA 6 earlier before officially delaying the release to November 19, 2026. Since then, the company has continued opening pre-orders while remaining largely quiet about its next marketing campaign. That said, Take-Two CEO has previously reaffirmed the release date.

That being said, York’s comments shouldn’t be interpreted as evidence that another delay is actually happening. They reflect his personal opinion rather than any current knowledge of Rockstar’s internal plans.

For now, Rockstar continues to list November 19 as GTA 6’s official release date for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
