Apex Legends Is Leaving the Original Nintendo Switch Later This Year

Apex Legends is one of the most demanding live-service shooters still active today. The game’s demanding nature has reportedly left little room for previous-gen hardware. In a blog post, Respawn Entertainment has confirmed that Apex Legends will be discontinued on Switch 1 at the end of Season 29, following the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2 version.

Notably, future updates will continue only on Nintendo Switch 2. Season 29 is scheduled to end on August 3, giving players a few more months before the shutdown.

Respawn has also clarified that all player progress is tied to EA accounts. Players who move to Switch 2 will be able to continue with their existing unlocks, stats, and purchases.

The Switch 2 edition recently launched with 60fps support, bringing performance closer to other console versions. The original Switch version launched in 2021 and was widely considered the weakest way to play Apex Legends. Performance limitations were apparent even at release.

Now that the Switch 2 is available, ending support for the older version was inevitable. The decision also raises questions about how long last-generation versions on PS4 and Xbox One will continue to be supported as Apex Legends evolves.
