Xbox Remote Play is Quietly Leveling Up With 1440p Streaming

Xbox Remote Play might finally be getting the upgrade players have wanted for years. In a Reddit post spotted by TrueAchievements, an Alpha Ring Insider has streaming reaching 1440p on Xbox Series X.

Interestingly, this isn’t the sole case. A few Alpha Ring Insiders have reportedly confirmed seeing the same resolution. Microsoft has not officially announced the upgrade yet. There is also no confirmed release date for regular Xbox users.

Remote Play currently lets players stream games installed on their own Xbox console. Microsoft supports playing remotely through compatible phones, tablets, PCs, and other devices. The reported test could raise the stream ceiling from 1080p to 1440p. That would make Remote Play considerably more attractive on sharper displays.

The feature also quietly drops as Xbox Cloud Gaming faces new capped-hour restrictions. Remote Play works differently because games run directly from the player’s own console. It could become important for players who prefer streaming without relying on cloud gaming sessions. Remote Play also does not require a Game Pass subscription simply to access the feature.

The Insider who noted Remote Play reaching 1440p on their iPad also mentioned that disabling Better xCloud did not remove the higher resolution. Do note that not all Insiders are seeing this upgrade, as many others report being on 1080p streaming quality.
