Apple to Turn Siri Into AI Chatbot as Part of Major iOS Upgrade
Apple is preparing a major AI push, and new details suggest Siri will soon change in a fundamental way.
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple plans to transform Siri into a full AI chatbot, bringing it closer to experiences offered by ChatGPT and Google’s AI assistants.
Apple plans chatbot-style Siri revamp
Internally codenamed “Campos,” the new Siri aims to deliver conversational interactions through both voice and text. Apple expects to integrate the upgraded assistant into iOS 27, with an official preview likely during WWDC in June 2026.
This approach marks a clear shift for Apple. The company previously avoided positioning Siri as a standalone chatbot, instead focusing on task-based voice commands. With Campos, Apple wants Siri to handle longer conversations, follow-up questions, and more complex queries.
The revamp aligns with Apple’s broader AI roadmap, which includes future Siri integrations powered by Gemini. By combining its own interface changes with external AI models, Apple aims to close the gap with competitors already dominating conversational AI.
Apple’s move reflects growing pressure across the tech industry. Companies race to redefine digital assistants as AI becomes more conversational and context-aware.
Apple is not alone in this push. OpenAI continues to scale its AI ambitions and reportedly works on its first AI-focused hardware device, expected to take the form of earbuds. At the same time, OpenAI insists its expanding AI data centers will not increase household electricity bills.
As major players invest heavily in AI software and hardware, Apple’s chatbot-style Siri could represent its most significant assistant upgrade since Siri’s original launch.
