ASUS ROG Xbox Ally Gets First US Discount in Months

ASUS ROG Xbox Ally price cut

The ASUS ROG Xbox Ally has stayed in the spotlight recently, largely due to ongoing issues involving Windows Smart App Control and Armory Crate. While ASUS has yet to roll out a fix, there’s at least some good news for buyers looking to jump in now.

ROG Xbox Ally price drop spotted on Amazon

As spotted by VideoCardz, the base model of the ROG Xbox Ally has dropped in price in the US after nearly two months without any discounts. The handheld is currently available on Amazon for $489.99, marking a noticeable price cut for the entry-level configuration.

For those unfamiliar, the ROG Xbox Ally is a Windows-based gaming handheld designed around the Xbox PC app experience. Users can keep the Xbox Full Screen Experience enabled for a console-like interface or disable it entirely and use the device as a full Windows PC.

The handheld features a 7-inch IPS touchscreen running at 1920×1080 resolution with a 120 Hz refresh rate. ASUS pairs the display with Xbox-style grips and controls, aiming to balance portability with a familiar console feel.

The standard ROG Xbox Ally runs on AMD’s Ryzen Z2 A processor, a 4-core / 8-thread Zen 2 APU equipped with 8 RDNA 2 compute units. The chip supports LPDDR5-6400 memory and closely matches the APU found in the Steam Deck, albeit under a different name.

ASUS targets a configurable power envelope ranging from 6 W to 20 W, allowing users to trade performance for battery life depending on the workload.

Base model specifications include:

  • 16 GB LPDDR5 RAM
  • 512 GB PCIe 4.0 M.2 2280 SSD (user-replaceable)
  • 60 Wh battery

At the moment, ASUS has not applied any discounts to the higher-end Ally X variant. However, that model recently made headlines after modders successfully upgraded it to 64 GB of memory.

Alongside the price drop, Xbox players have another reason to pay attention. Microsoft recently expanded the Stream Your Own Game library with 40 additional titles, giving ROG Xbox Ally owners even more games to enjoy on the handheld.

For now, the discounted price makes the base ROG Xbox Ally a more attractive entry point, even as ASUS continues to work through its current software issues.
