Call of Duty: Black Ops 1 and 2 Are Finally Coming to PS5 and PS4 This July
Two of Call of Duty’s most celebrated entries are making their way to PlayStation hardware. Treyarch has officially confirmed that the original Call of Duty: Black Ops and Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 will launch on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 this July.
The announcement was made from the official Treyarch account on X, which revealed that both ports are being developed in partnership with Iron Galaxy. The studio also confirmed that each game will include its full suite of content, including Campaign, Multiplayer, and Zombies.
For longtime fans, this marks the first time both titles will be officially playable on current PlayStation consoles. Originally released in 2010 and 2012, respectively, Black Ops and Black Ops 2 are widely regarded as high points for the franchise.
From the Cold War espionage storyline of the first game to Black Ops 2’s futuristic setting and branching campaign paths, both titles helped define an era of Call of Duty. There is one important caveat, however. Contrary of previous expectations, these releases are ports, not remasters or remakes.
That means players should not expect upgraded visuals, redesigned mechanics, or overhauled content. Treyarch has also yet to clarify how online services will function. Questions remain over server support, matchmaking systems, anti-cheat measures, and whether legacy progression systems will remain intact.
