ChatGPT Ad Testing to Soon Start in the UK & Four More Regions
It’s been quite a while since OpenAI has been testing ads inside ChatGPT, first in the US. While OpenAI previously denied global rollout, it is now expanding ChatGPT ad testing to five more regions, including the UK, Brazil, Mexico, Japan, and South Korea.
In an update to the original blog post from February, OpenAI today noted that ad testing in the aforementioned regions will start in the coming weeks. Speaking of which, the company says expanding the ad pilot in ChatGPT will help it understand “what works well in different regions, so [it] can continue improving the experience” down the line.

When the company first announced ad testing inside ChatGPT, Anthropic took a dig at the company via a Super Bowl ad, which Sam Altman dismissed, calling the campaign “dishonest.” As of now, OpenAI is testing ads inside ChatGPT with logged-in adult users on the Free and Go subscription tiers.
The company previously confirmed that Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, and Education tiers will not have ads. OpenAI has previously also clarified that ads do not influence the answers ChatGPT gives you, and that conversations with ChatGPT remain private from advertisers. Let’s not forget that OpenAI has also launched a new optional safety feature called Trusted Contact in ChatGPT, which allows adults to add someone they trust, such as a family member, friend, or caregiver, to be contacted if serious self-harm concerns are detected by automated systems and human reviewers.
