ChatGPT desktop gets major Voice and project upgrades in the latest update
OpenAI is back with another round of ChatGPT improvements, and this time the focus is on Voice and desktop productivity. The latest update makes it easier to manage work across conversations while giving local projects a welcome boost.
ChatGPT Voice can now coordinate work across chats
Powered by GPT-Live, ChatGPT Voice now lets users start, monitor, and manage work across different chats directly from the desktop app. Users can start a conversation in Voice mode and ask ChatGPT to check progress, continue tasks, or steer work happening in other Chat, Work, and Codex threads.
Mac users also get a useful addition. With Screen Context enabled, ChatGPT can view a snapshot of the frontmost app window, making Voice conversations more aware of what’s currently on screen.
The upgraded Voice experience is available for Plus, Pro, Business, Edu, and Enterprise subscribers through the ChatGPT desktop app. It also works with Remote on iOS.
Desktop projects become more flexible
OpenAI has also expanded local projects in the ChatGPT desktop app. Projects can now include multiple related folders instead of being limited to one. Users can choose a primary folder, which becomes the default location for new chats, Git operations, automatic AGENTS.md discovery, skills, and configuration files. Secondary folders remain accessible for file searching, reading, and editing.
OpenAI has also been steadily expanding ChatGPT in recent months, with latest additions like ChatGPT Health for users in the US, giving users access to more reliable health information and guidance alongside its growing set of AI-powered productivity features.
