Last month, we reported that Google was testing a revamped ‘Delete Browsing Data’ dialog in Chrome Canary. Now, the preview of the new UI is live. While it is not fully working yet, it is simpler and easier to use than the previous version. Here’s what’s new—and what’s still missing.
Chrome allows users to clear various type of browsing data including history, cookies, saved passwords, and autofill information. The interface hasn’t been updated since a long time.
The new Clear Browsing Data dialog introduces several changes aimed at improving the user experience.
- A single, clean interface replaces the Basic and Advanced tabs.
- A “Show more” button appears at the bottom, though it currently doesn’t populate any additional options.
- The option to delete all saved passwords at once has been removed,
What’s missing in new UI:
- The timeframe range (e.g., last hour, last 24 hours, last 7 days, last 4 weeks, all time) is not currently available but may be added in a future update.
- The “Delete Data” button is not working at the moment, meaning users can only view the new UI but cannot actually clear their browsing data using this dialog. It’s likely that Google is still working on the feature and will fully enable soon.
Note: To keep it simple, we’ve attached a screenshot of the Delete Browsing Data dialog for a user not signed into Chrome.
Here’s a quick comparison of the old and new designs:
Feature | old UI | New UI |
Tabs | Basic and Advanced | Single Screen |
Password Deletion | Option to delete all passwords at once | Removed |
Layout | cluttered with seperate tabs | Cleaner with a “show more “button |
The updated Clear Browsing Data dialog is currently available in Chrome Canary, Here is how you can try it out
- Launch the latest version of Chrome Canary.
- Go to chrome://flags
- Find and enable the “”Revamped Delete Browsing Data dialog” flag
- Restart Chrrome
Once enabled, you’ll see the new UI when you navigate to Settings > Privacy and Security> Delete Browsing Data.
Chrome’s new Clear Browsing Data dialog is a welcome change. Although the removal of the option to delete “Passwords and other sign-in data” might take some getting used to, you can switch to Google Password Manager in Chrome and delete all passwords whenever you want.
Apart from this, Chrome may integrate a page search address bar shortcut for Google Lens. Additionally, Google has canceled Chrome’s Auto Dark Mode feature. Meanwhile, Chrome has started pushing users to try Gemini via notifications.
