Claude Opus 4.6 and Thinking Model Spotted, Release Expected Today
Recently, rumors pointed to the imminent release of Claude Sonnet 5, but new information suggests that a different launch may happen first.
New Claude Opus models spotted in Perplexity API
The information comes from a post shared by leo on X, who spotted new model references while inspecting the Perplexity API. According to the findings, the API includes mentions of Claude Opus 4.6 and Claude Opus 4.6 Thinking, indicating that new Opus-tier models could debut as soon as today.
Based on the API descriptions, Claude Opus 4.6 appears labeled as the most advanced Claude model, while Claude Opus 4.6 Thinking is described as a reasoning-focused model with explicit “thinking” capabilities. This strongly suggests Anthropic is expanding its lineup with models tailored for deeper reasoning tasks.
Sonnet 5 may arrive later than expected
The same post suggests that Claude Sonnet 5 could still launch, but not as soon as earlier leaks claimed. If accurate, this would mean previous reports about an imminent Sonnet 5 release may have jumped the gun, even though the model still seems to remain on Anthropic’s roadmap.
So far, Anthropic has not made any official announcement regarding Claude Opus 4.6, Opus 4.6 Thinking, or Sonnet 5. As always, plans may change before public confirmation.
Separately, Anthropic continues to push Claude deeper into enterprise workflows. Microsoft has started using Claude Code alongside Copilot for certain development scenarios, and Claude recently introduced a new Cowork feature designed to improve collaboration in business environments.
We’ll keep you updated as soon as Anthropic shares official details or confirms the new Claude models.
