free upgrade to Windows 11

Microsoft will soon send free invitations to upgrade devices to Windows 11, for companies relying on the Redmond-based tech giant to manage their devices, it says in a recent announcement.

The free invites will be offered starting with the April 2024 security updates to Windows 10. and will only show for Windows 10 Pro and Pro Workstation devices that are eligible for Windows 11, and are not managed by IT departments.

Good news if you rely on Microsoft to manage your organization’s Windows updates for you. Starting with the April 2024 security update, Windows users working on cloud-domain joined and domain joined non-managed business devices will see invitation messages about free upgrades to Windows 11. That’s part of our mission to help keep your organization protected and productive. The invitation to upgrade to Windows 11 will appear after signing in and usually following a reboot. It will only show on Windows 10 Pro and Pro Workstation devices that are eligible for Windows 11 and are not managed by IT departments. Once prompted, users will be able to opt to get Windows 11, version 23H2 or stay in Windows 10. Of course, we recommend Windows 11!

Users will have the option to set the proper time for the upgrade.

It’s worth mentioning that Windows 10 support will end next year, in October 2025, but it can be extended up to 3 more years, for a price, and companies are advised to do so if they want to keep using the operating system.

Those users who do decide to upgrade to Windows 11 will have a lot to catch up on, as Microsoft will release the 2024 Update later this year, and it will add even more AI features to the operating system.

However, they’ll have access to a new File Explorer, and many other capabilities, including Copilot.
