Copilot Recaps Are Getting Axed in Microsoft Loop Starting This May

The company expects retirement to be completed by the end of May

Microsoft is quietly pulling back on one of its Copilot features in Loop, with AI-generated Recaps set to be retired by late May 2026 (via Neowin). The retirement is expected to begin in early May, affecting all Microsoft 365 users globally.

To catch you up, Microsoft recently confirmed that it will start to cut the Copilot clutter, but that’s mostly part of a bigger fix plan for Windows 11. Although there’s no exact explanation on why the company is pulling the feature, it’s important to note that Microsoft recently made internal changes to its M365 leadership group.

As part of the retirement, Microsoft Loop will no longer let users generate Recaps using Copilot, effectively removing the “With AI” option from the experience. The feature isn’t being replaced either, which raises some questions around its usage and long-term value.

That being said, Recaps aren’t going away entirely. Users can still create and edit them manually, so the core functionality remains intact. Microsoft says the move is meant to simplify the experience, while it continues investing in other Copilot features across its ecosystem.

Back in earlier updates, Microsoft had been adding more AI-powered tools into Loop, making this shift feel slightly unexpected. It appears the company is now taking a more selective approach, focusing on features that deliver clearer value at scale.

It should be noted that the change will be applied by default, cannot be reversed, and requires no admin action. Other Copilot features in Loop will continue to work as usual, so this is a targeted removal rather than a broader rollback.
