Cyberpunk 2077's Sequel Game Director Reveals What to Expect From Its Opening Hours
CD Projekt Red has revealed new details about the opening hours of its upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 sequel, aka Cyberpunk 2, which is often called Project Orion internally.
While the studio hasn’t shared much gameplay yet, director Igor Sarzynski has offered a glimpse into how the sequel will start (via FRVR). Well, you can expect a faster, action-focused introduction compared to the original game.
According to Sarzynski, extending the first act before the heist in Cyberpunk 2077 didn’t improve the experience, and the sequel will likely skip straight to the core of the story. The opening may include a quick action sequence or start in medias res to get players immediately engaged.
In other words, this means that the intro part of Cyberpunk 2077’s sequel will move faster, but the studio is looking to improve the impact of the narrative. The first game’s opening rushed V’s relationship with Jackie and made lifepath choices feel minor. The sequel plans to make early interactions and story beats more meaningful without slowing down gameplay.
All that said, there’s no release date yet, and details on missions or gameplay remain scarce. But CD Projekt Red is clearly focused on combining faster pacing with stronger storytelling, ensuring the opening hours feel exciting while still building the world and characters effectively.
