After several users pointed out that YouTube is not working on DirecTV, we tested it and faced the problem on a few TVs while others worked fine. So, it appeared to be more of a device-specific problem.
In our experience, for YouTube issues on DirecTV, it’s generally network issues, corrupt app cache, buggy updates, outdated software, or misconfigured settings to blame. Below, we will share the tips and tricks that helped us fix things when YouTube was missing or not working on DirecTV!
To start with, switch to another network, preferably a mobile hotspot, or go with a wired network connection. Also, press the red Reset button on the DirecTV receiver. It could be on the side or back panel. And do not forget to check the connections, as it helps with DirecTV error code 775
What can I do if YouTube is not working on DirecTV?
1. Clear the YouTube app cache
- On the main menu, go to Settings (gear icon).
- Head to System and then select Apps & Storage.
- Now, select YouTube from the list of applications.
- Select the Clear cache and Clear data options and choose the appropriate response in case a confirmation prompt appears.
- Once done, restart the setup and check for improvements.
2. Install the latest DirecTV software
If you haven’t updated the DirecTV receiver’s software in a long while, chances are that it’s the reason DirecTV YouTube is not working. An outdated software may have issues connecting to the network or trigger conflicts with the installed app version.
So, check for any available updates and install them. Make sure you get them all. Also, enable automatic updates so you never miss out on any in the future.
3. Uninstall app updates
- Go to DirecTV Settings, and select Apps & Storage.
- Select YouTube from the list of apps.
- Now, choose Uninstall updates to revert to the initial version of YouTube installed on the device.
- Next, go to the Google Play Store on DirecTV and disable automatic updates for YouTube.
- Finally, reboot the device and check for improvements.
4. Reinstall YouTube
If DirecTV YouTube is still not working, it could be an issue with the app installation itself. So, go to App Settings and uninstall YouTube.
Restart the device, and you can then reinstall YouTube from the Google Play Store on the DirecTV streaming box.
5. Reset DirecTV to defaults
In case nothing else works, the last option is to reset DirecTV to the default settings. This will wipe out all data, and you will be forced to re-login and download the apps, but it will, in all likelihood, fix things if the misconfigured settings are to blame.
As a last resort, you can contact DirecTV support.
