How can I download and install Safari for Chromebook?

1. Download Crouton

  1. Press Ctrl + Alt + T, type shell, and press Enter to open a shell.
  2. Then copy the installer to an executable location and run the following command:
    sudo install -Dt /usr/local/bin -m 755 ~/Downloads/crouton
  1. Now it’s time to run the installer itself. So, enter this command:
    sudo crouton -t xfce
  1. Answer the prompts and you’re done.

Crouton allows you to run Ubuntu (or Debian) alongside Chrome OS on your Chromebook and have the simplicity and security of Chrome OS with the flexibility of Ubuntu.

2. Install Ubuntu Linux

  1. First download Ubuntu.donwloadUbuntu
  2. Then you need to create a live USB in order to boot into Ubuntu from a USB drive.
  3. Now you need to boot from your live USB instead of the hard disk.
  4. Choose the Install Ubuntu right away option.
  5. Create a username and set a password.
  6. Remove the USB disk and restart your system.
  7. Now you’ll boot into Ubuntu.

3. Install Wine

  1. Verify the Ubuntu system and see if you’re using 32-bit or 64-bit versions of Ubuntu: Enter this command:
    lscpu
  2. Install the latest stable version of Wine.
    For the 32-bit version enter:
    sudo apt install wine32
    For the 64-bit version enter:
    sudo apt install wine64
  3. Verify which wine version is installed:
    wine --version

4. Download Safari

  1. Open Terminal and run the following commands:
    mkdir -p ~/build/safari
    cd ~/build/safari
  2. Download Safari using this command:
    wget http://appldnld.apple.com/Safari5/041-5487.20120509.INU8B/SafariSetup.exe
  3. Then, install it with the following command:
    wine SafariSetup.exe
  4. After the installation ends, click the Finish button to quit the installer.
