Error Receive Expedited 708 (0x2C4): Fix it With 4 Steps

ERROR_RECEIVE_EXPEDITED usually affects server administrators and it can cause the server to return data to the client. However, there are ways to fix this problem once and for all.

How can I fix the ERROR_RECEIVE_EXPEDITED message?

1. Check the logs

1. Press the Windows key + X and choose Event Viewer.
   
2. Next, go to Windows Logs and select System or Application.
   
3. Look for this error and logs related to expiated data, priority settings or transport errors.

Once you find the issue, try to solve the original problem to stop this message from appearing.

2. Analyze the network traffic

1. Use Wireshark or similar tools to monitor the network traffic.
2. Look for any packages marked as expedited or flagged for higher priority.
3. Verify that the sender’s expedited flag aligns with the receiver’s capability.

3. Verify configuration

1. Check if the system or the application isn’t marking data unnecessary as expedited.
2. Check protocol or transport layer settings for priority flags.
3. Ensure that the receiving application or system can handle expedited data.
4. Lastly, ensure that there’s protocol support and compatibility.

4. Other solutions to try

1. Identify the application or system that is causing the error.
2. Determine when the error occurs and check if the problem involves a specific protocol.
3. Check the proxies, firewalls, and routers between the sender and receiver.
4. Ensure that there aren’t policies that are modifying or dropping expedited data.
5. Update the software on both the sender and receiver.
6. Check for any documented issues or patches that address data handling.
7. Optional: Temporarily disable the sender from marking data as expedited, and configure the receiver to ignore expedited data.

ERROR_RECEIVE_EXPEDITED often comes with the following message: 708 (0x2C4) {Expedited Data Received} The network transport returned data to its client that was marked as expedited by the remote system.
