Fable Release Date Confirmed at XBOX Games Showcase 2026
Microsoft and Playground Games unveiled a new story trailer for Fable during the XBOX Games Showcase 2026, offering a deeper look at the game’s characters, story, combat, and magical world. The trailer featured new gameplay footage, a Balverine encounter, and the first major look at the game’s central villain, Isabel.
The showcase also confirmed a February 23, 2027 release date for Fable, with Premium Edition owners gaining early access starting February 18. The game will be available on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, cloud, Game Pass, Xbox Play Anywhere, Steam, and PlayStation 5.
Hayley Atwell leads the cast as villain Isabel
One of the biggest reveals from the trailer was Isabel, played by Hayley Atwell. Described as a powerful Hero driven by grief and a desire to correct a tragic injustice, Isabel appears to be the primary antagonist of the story.
The new trailer suggests that her motivations are more complex than simple villainy, positioning her as a dangerous figure whose actions could reshape Albion.
Players can choose between two voiced Heroes
The Hero of Briar Hill will be voiced by Lily Nichol and Ukweli Roach, giving players two voice options for the main protagonist.
According to Playground Games, the Hero’s personality will be shaped by player choices throughout the adventure. Players can become a noble champion, a selfish opportunist, or something in between as they navigate Albion’s challenges.
Supporting cast
The trailer also introduced several key supporting characters who will play important roles throughout the adventure. These include Humphry (Matt King), a retired legendary Hero once celebrated across Albion; Arden the Cobbler (Susan Wokoma), a Hero who actively rejects fame and hero worship; and Dave the Giant (Richard Ayoade), an eccentric intellectual whose unusual circumstances have made him one of Albion’s more memorable figures.
Players will also encounter Jenny (Natasia Demetriou) and Jacob (Nathan Foad), rival heirs competing for influence in Bloodstone; Connor (Kwame Augustine), the player’s adoptive brother and a grounded perspective on Albion’s events; Samira “Grandma” (Nina Wadia), caretaker of Briar Hill’s Rose & Thorn pub; and Nigel the Sheriff (Robert Whitelock), a well-meaning lawman struggling to maintain order amid Albion’s many dangers.
New gameplay showcases combat, magic, and monsters
Beyond story details, the trailer offered fresh gameplay footage highlighting sword combat, ranged attacks, magic abilities, and exploration.
Fans also got a look at one of Fable’s iconic creatures, the Balverine, which appears to play a major role in several encounters throughout the adventure.
The footage continued to emphasize Playground Games’ modern take on Albion while retaining the humor, fantasy, and player-driven choices that defined previous entries in the franchise.
Fable was not the only major game featured during the showcase. Microsoft also presented Halo: Campaign Evolved and Gears of War: E-Day as part of its packed lineup of first-party titles.
