XBOX has revealed a new look at Halo: Campaign Evolved, a modern remake of the original Halo: Combat Evolved campaign. The game is scheduled to release on July 28, 2026, for XBOX Series X|S, PC, and PlayStation 5. Players who purchase the Premium Edition or Collector’s Edition will be able to start playing up to five days early, beginning July 23.

Powered by Unreal Engine 5, the remake delivers upgraded visuals, improved animations, enhanced audio, and several gameplay refinements while preserving the core experience that made the original a landmark title for the franchise.

Halo Studios reveals new prequel campaign set before Combat Evolved

The latest trailer introduced Operation: METEORITE, a brand-new three-mission story arc that comes bundled with every edition of the game. Set one year before the events of Halo: Combat Evolved, the expansion follows Master Chief and Sgt. Avery Johnson as they embark on a secret UNSC operation aboard a Covenant research vessel.

According to Halo Studios, Operation: METEORITE expands the Halo universe with new locations, enemy types, weapons, and sandbox gameplay opportunities. The trailer showcased large-scale battles across Covenant-controlled environments, intense space combat sequences, and dangerous new foes, including the Brute Berserker.

Halo: Campaign Evolved includes both the fully remade 10-mission Halo: Combat Evolved campaign and the new Operation: METEORITE content. Halo Studios describes the package as the definitive way to experience the original Halo story alongside an entirely new chapter.

Cross-play, Game Pass support, and platform availability

Halo: Campaign Evolved supports both cross-play and cross-progression across Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC, Steam, and PlayStation 5. Progress can carry between supported platforms, allowing players to continue their campaign and multiplayer experience wherever they play.

Microsoft also confirmed that the game will be available on launch day through Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass.

Pre-orders have opened across XBOX, Steam, and PlayStation platforms, while the Collector’s Edition is available exclusively through Halo Waypoint.

Halo was not the only major title shown during the showcase. Microsoft also debuted a new Fable story trailer and shared fresh details about Gears of War: E-Day.
