We previously heard reports suggesting Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is heading to Xbox, and new details now point to a release on Nintendo’s next console as well.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Is Coming to Switch 2, insiders claim

According to a report from Insider Gaming, Square Enix is currently targeting a summer 2026 launch window for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth on the Nintendo Switch 2. The information comes from an insider source familiar with Square Enix’s plans, although the report cautions that the release window could change if development timelines shift.

The same report claims that Rebirth remains scheduled to launch on Xbox Series X/S sometime in 2026. In addition, Square Enix directors have reportedly confirmed that both Part 2 and Part 3 of the Final Fantasy 7 remake trilogy are in active development with Switch 2 in mind, signaling a broader multi-platform strategy.

Another source cited in the report suggests that the Xbox Series X/S and Switch 2 versions could arrive simultaneously. That approach would mirror Square Enix’s previous release strategy for Final Fantasy 7 Remake, which eventually expanded to additional platforms after its initial launch.

If accurate, this would be significant news for Nintendo’s next-generation console. Final Fantasy 7 Remake has already performed strongly on Switch 2, and with the console reportedly dominating hardware sales in Japan, major publishers appear eager to bring high-profile titles to the platform. For Square Enix, releasing Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth on Switch 2 could help the remake trilogy reach its widest audience yet.
