Final Fantasy I (Pixel Remaster) Joins Xbox Game Pass Today
Xbox Game Pass has quietly landed the very first Final Fantasy remaster, the Final Fantasy I Pixel Remaster, today. While the visual updates appear nice, they’re honestly not the main reason this version finally makes sense to play in 2026.
It’s not hidden that the original Final Fantasy hasn’t aged gracefully. It’s slow, grind-heavy, and packed with random encounters that test patience more than skill. Fortunately, the Pixel Remaster fixes that problem.
New under-the-hood settings now allow players to curb encounter rates, boost EXP gains, and move faster across the map. Those small changes completely revamp the experience, making a historically important but exhausting RPG into something that is finally intriguing to play.
With the new quality-of-life options enabled, the game can be completed in roughly 12 hours, including all Xbox achievements. That makes it a rare Xbox Game Pass RPG you can realistically finish over a weekend.
For longtime fans, it’s a chance to revisit where the series began without the frustration. For newcomers, it’s the best way to understand why Final Fantasy became a giant in the first place. If Final Fantasy I can arrive on Game Pass, it’s not hard to imagine Square Enix slowly rolling out the remaining Pixel Remaster titles next. That’s a big if, if you ask me. But the door might have finally been opened.
