Firefox Finally Lets You Remove the Extensions Button from the Toolbar

Key notes

  • Firefox Nightly now allows users to remove Extensions toolbar button
  • Users can right-click and select the option to remove it
  • This was no longer possible in the past
  • This change heads into Firefox release version soon

Mozilla introduced the Extensions button on the toolbar in Firefox some time back for users to access, remove, report, and manage extensions and their permissions. Mozilla has configured it in such a way in Firefox that it is always shown on the toolbar. Users have requested Mozilla to allow them to remove it to declutter the toolbar. Firefox in Nightly now allows that, and soon, this change will get into the release as well.

In the latest Nightly, you can right-click on the Extensions button on the toolbar and select the “Remove from Toolbar” option. Firefox confirms the change via a “Moved to menu” message.

The next time if you want to see the Extensions button on the toolbar, click the menu and select Extensions. You can even right-click on it and set “Always show in the toolbar.”

So, you are in control of the visibility of the Extensions toolbar button without needing to dig into about:config and modify or set any preferences.

Apart from this, starting with Firefox 140, Mozilla may let you delete local AI models from Firefox.
