firefox nightly wallpaper support

Chrome and other web browsers support various backgrounds and are known for their customization features.

It seems that Firefox is set to join them as Mozilla is testing wallpaper support on the new tab page.

Wallpaper support on the new tab page is available in Firefox Nightly

According to keen-eyed users on Reddit, Mozilla has recently added wallpaper support to the Firefox Nightly and you can see the new wallpapers on the new tab page.

Users can easily enable this feature and choose one of several available backgrounds to customize the new tab page.

Although Firefox has supported all sorts of customization features with various extensions, that’s not the case anymore.

Browsers such as Chrome and Edge had wallpaper support for a while, and Edge could even use videos as wallpapers.

It seems that Mozilla developers are working on this feature, and you can try it by doing the following:

  1. Start Firefox and navigate to the about:config page.
  2. Paste the following in the search bar: browser.newtabpage.activity-stream.newtabWallpapers
  3. Change the value of this setting to true.
  4. Open the new tab page and click on the Settings icon.
  5. Select one of the 6 available wallpapers.

It’s worth mentioning that Mozzila has one original wallpaper, while others are provided by Unsplash.

If you want to remove the current wallpaper, you can always use the Reset to default link. While the choice of wallpapers is fairly limited, we expect that Mozilla will add more wallpapers in the future.

This is a great feature, but it’s not the only one Mozilla is working on. Mozilla is testing Chrome’s text fragments in Firefox 126, and Firefox is also using an untrusted integrity level thus boosting your security even further.
