New Xbox Game Pass “Starter Edition” Will Be Free for Discord Nitro Subscribers, Leak Suggests
Xbox CEO recently teased a Discord partnership around Game Pass
Earlier this week, Xbox CEO Asha Sharma teased a partnership with Discord around Xbox Game Pass. At the time, Sharma said “some of you might start to see some code in the wild,” but didn’t reveal everything, adding that “more details” will be shared soon. Well, it seems details have leaked ahead of the official announcement.
Fresh leak hints at free access to the new Xbox Game Pass (Starter Edition) plan for Discord Nitro subscribers
The news comes via The Verge, which spotted a post on X by the account DiscordPreviews detailing a new Xbox Game Pass “Starter Edition” perk for Discord Nitro users. As seen in the leaked image below, the new Starter Edition for Xbox Game Pass will include “50+ games like Stardew Valley, Fallout 4, and Grounded,” 10 hours of cloud gaming every month, and Xbox Rewards.

Additionally, Discord Nitro subscribers will soon be able to use cloud gaming to play select games from their Xbox library. The leaker further adds Nitro subscribers will be able to “find details on how to activate Game Pass on your Nitro home once the feature rolls out.”
In addition to these details, the news outlet spotted another post by user redphx on X, that mentions “a lot of third-party games” will be part of the new Game Pass tier. So, it seems the new Game Pass tier won’t only include first-party titles. Apparently, Xbox Game Pass (Starter Edition) is the official name for the previously leaked Triton/Duo tier.
Xbox’s massive reset plan
The new Game Pass tier for Discord Nitro subscribers appears to be part of a massive Xbox reset plan that Asha Sharma and Matt Booty shared yesterday. Speaking of which, Microsoft Gaming branding has been scrapped entirely, as Sharma and Booty declared the “We are Xbox” message. In the same announcement, Xbox leadership also acknowledged that they have some work to do, while also confirming that their “new north star will be daily active players.” More importantly, Xbox wants to be a platform “where the world plays and creates.” It will be interesting to see how the new leadership steers Xbox toward a brighter future.
