GeForce RTX 5090 LIGHTNING Gets Lottery Launch and $5,090 Price Tag

RTX 5090 LIGHTNING

MSI has started teasing what appears to be the GeForce RTX 5090 LIGHTNING, its halo-class flagship graphics card. The RTX 5090 was in headlines due to RTX 5090 power incidents, and we recently saw MSI Afterburner adding extra protection for LIGHTNING and similar high-end models.

MSI RTX 5090 LIGHTNING to Have Ultra-Limited Release

According to VideoCardz, MSI UK posted a lightning-themed teaser hinting at a February 13 announcement. The messaging strongly points toward an official update on the RTX 5090 LIGHTNING.

Only 1,300 Units Worldwide

The LIGHTNING series represents MSI’s showcase GPU lineup rather than a standard retail product. For the RTX 5090 generation, MSI will reportedly produce just 1,300 serialized units globally.

A Taiwan retailer listing claims 100 units will ship to Taiwan, signaling highly restricted regional allocation. Distribution appears tightly managed instead of broadly available through standard retail channels.

A significant portion of the 1,300 units may also go toward promotions, partner builds, and media samples.

MSI Introduces Lottery-Based Purchase System

MSI US confirmed that customers must enter a lottery-style draw to gain purchase eligibility. Buyers cannot simply purchase the card through a standard checkout process. Here’s how the system works:

  • Create or log into an MSI Online Store member account
  • Subscribe to MSI newsletters
  • Enter the draw
  • Wait for email notification if selected

Winners must complete their purchase by February 13, 2026, at 11:59 PM. Each selected participant can buy only one unit. Bear in mind that eligibility is limited to residents of the lower 48 U.S. states.

As for the price, the official U.S. price stands at $5,090.99, placing it firmly in ultra-premium territory.

Extreme Power Modes and Overclocking Focus

MSI positions LIGHTNING alongside elite cards such as ASUS ROG Matrix, targeting extreme enthusiasts and competitive overclockers.

The RTX 5090 LIGHTNING reportedly includes:

  • Selectable 800W and 1000W power modes
  • An additional 2500W XOC BIOS mode for extreme overclocking, which voids the warranty
  • An integrated AIO liquid cooling system on the RTX 5090 LIGHTNING Z variant
  • An 8-inch onboard display panel for telemetry and custom visuals

Users manage tuning and display features through MSI’s LIGHTNING Hub software and companion mobile tools.

Given the limited production run and lottery-only access, standard retail availability will likely remain extremely scarce.

In related news, MSI has also announced three new X870 and X870E motherboards, expanding its latest AM5 platform lineup.
