Google Drops “What People Suggest” AI Tool From Search Results

What People Suggest discontinued

Google has removed its experimental AI search feature called “What People Suggest,” according to reporting from The Guardian. The tool previously surfaced health advice and experiences shared by people in online discussions.

AI Tool Aggregated Health Experiences From Online Discussions

The feature used artificial intelligence to aggregate crowdsourced insights from users who discussed similar medical conditions on forums and other online platforms. It aimed to help people researching health topics see how others with similar experiences managed symptoms or treatments.

For example, someone searching for information about a specific medical condition could view advice or personal experiences shared by other patients. The results also included links to the original discussions so users could review the full context.

Google previously described the experiment as an example of “the potential of AI to transform health outcomes globally.” The feature initially launched on mobile devices in the United States as part of Google’s ongoing efforts to integrate generative AI into search results.

Google Says Removal Is Part of Search Simplification

However, people familiar with the decision say the company has now quietly discontinued the feature. A Google spokesperson confirmed its removal, explaining that the change was part of a broader effort to simplify the search results page.

According to Google, the decision was not related to safety or quality issues.

AI Health Information Under Growing Scrutiny

The removal comes as AI-generated health information faces increasing scrutiny. Earlier reports showed that AI Overviews in Google Search sometimes produced misleading or potentially harmful medical advice.

AI Overviews currently appear in search results for roughly two billion users every month. Following criticism from researchers and medical professionals, Google removed AI Overviews for some medical queries, though they still appear for many others.

Google Continues Expanding AI Healthcare Efforts

Despite discontinuing the “What People Suggest” feature, Google says it remains focused on developing AI tools that deliver reliable health information from multiple sources.

The company is expected to present new AI healthcare initiatives at its upcoming “The Check Up” event.

Interest in AI-driven healthcare tools has grown rapidly across the tech industry. OpenAI has expanded its work in medical AI systems, while Anthropic introduced Claude for Healthcare, and Microsoft recently unveiled Copilot Health.
