Google’s NotebookLM, which debuted as a document analysis tool, is now getting plethora of upgrades that is taking it closer to becoming a complete research workspace. In an update shared earlier today, the company confirmed that NoteBookLM can now reason through complex projects, perform deeper analysis, create downloadable assets, and even help users build source libraries from scratch.

NotebookLM now does more than just read documents

Google has upgraded NotebookLM to run on Gemini 3.5 alongside a new reasoning architecture called Antigravity. According to the company, the combination improves accuracy, large-document understanding, source discovery, and advanced research capabilities.

Interestingly, every notebook now gets access to what Google describes as a secure cloud computer. That means NotebookLM can write and execute code on behalf of users to perform analysis, process data, and tackle more complex research tasks. Google says the system ships with more than 100 built-in software skills designed to help users work with their sources in new ways.

Reports, charts, presentations and more

Google is also also expanding what NotebookLM can generate. Users can now create PDF reports, spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentations, structured datasets, charts, visualizations, markdown documents, images, and more directly from notebook content. Outputs remain editable after creation, making them easier to refine for real-world projects. New output formats include:

  • Data visualizations and charts (png, svg)
  • Documents (PDFs, docx, markdown, text files)
  • Images with Nano Banana (png, jpg, gif)
  • Structured data (csv, json)
  • Microsoft Excel (xlsx)
  • Microsoft PowerPoint (pptx)

Speaking of research, users no longer need a fully prepared notebook. The new experience allows NotebookLM to help discover sources, locate related materials, search the web for supporting information, and suggest additional references before building a research repository.

Agentic capabilities in NotebookLM starts rolling out today for Google AI Ultra subscribers and eligible Workspace business customers.
