Google Rolls Out Gemini Personal Intelligence in Beta, First in the U.S
Google has just taken another step toward making Gemini feel less like a general chatbot and more like a personal assistant that actually knows you. Starting today, Google is rolling out Personal Intelligence with Connected Apps for Gemini, launching as a beta in the U.S. In short, Gemini can now connect to your Google apps with a single tap and use that context to deliver more relevant, more useful answers.
At launch, Personal Intelligence lets users link Gmail, Google Photos, YouTube, and Search. The setup is optional and off by default. You can decide which apps to connect, and each one adds a new layer of context. Once enabled, Gemini can reason across emails, photos, text, and even video to answer questions in a way that feels far more personal.
Google says this feature comes in handy when it comes to retrieving specific details and combining them with reasoning. Instead of just giving generic answers, Gemini can pull exact information from your inbox or photo library and build on it. That could mean finding details from an old email, identifying something from an image, or connecting past searches to current plans.
Additionally, Google highlights use cases like planning trips, recommending books or shows, and helping with everyday tasks. By understanding past activity and interests stored in connected apps, Gemini can skip surface-level suggestions and offer more thoughtful recommendations.
Privacy remains a central focus here, as Google stresses that app connections are fully controlled by the user and can be turned off at any time. Gemini only accesses data to respond to specific requests, and it does not directly train on Gmail inboxes or Photos libraries. Users can also ask Gemini to explain where an answer came from, regenerate responses without personalization, or use temporary chats.
The beta is rolling out over the next week to Google AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers in the U.S. It works across web, Android, and iOS, with broader expansion planned over time. Google says this is just the beginning of making Gemini more personal, proactive, and genuinely helpful.
