GPU Prices Could Get Even Worse as Another Price Hike Looms

GPU prices are already hurting PC builders, and the squeeze may not be over yet. A Japanese retailer has reportedly warned that another round of graphics card price increases is coming, with some models expected to get more expensive soon.

Another GPU price hike could be around the corner

Japanese retailer Applied has warned customers that prices for some graphics cards are set to rise again (via VideoCardz). The retailer has not revealed which models are affected or how big of a price hike will it be. Here’s what the translated tweet from the retailer reads:

There’s talk about graphics card price hikes, but some graphics cards are slated for even further price increases. For those considering an upgrade, I recommend doing so sooner rather than later.

That warning comes after a rough August for GPU buyers. Retailers in Japan previously reported increases of roughly 20% to 30% across several graphics card price ranges. The situation is already visible on store shelves.

ITmedia further reports that many cards have moved to higher prices, while only a small number of models are still sitting near their older pricing. For example, one RTX 5070 model was listed at around $1,030, while its white variant was selling for roughly $770. That is a difference of more than $250 for what is essentially the same GPU class.

16GB GPUs are hard to find cheap these days

The RTX 5060 Ti 16GB has already jumped toward roughly $890, although discounted models below $630 can still be found. Meanwhile, some Radeon RX 9060 XT 16GB cards are sitting around $470 to $500 in Japan.

As of now, Applied has not confirmed a specific date for price hike to take effect and it is unclear whether the warning will extend beyond Japan. However, with GPU prices already moving up sharply, another increase could make waiting for a cheaper upgrade even harder.
