GTA 6 has been making rounds online more than ever, especially after pre-orders went live late last month. Following leaked details about NPC behavior and the in-game social platform, yet another report has emerged, and this time there’s some good news for all the Nintendo fans who have been waiting to hear for months.

GTA 6 on Nintendo Switch 2 could be a reality next year

According to Spanish insider Nash Weedle, Rockstar has reportedly overcome the biggest technical hurdles preventing GTA 6 from running on the Nintendo Switch 2. The leaker, who previously claimed late last year that a Switch 2 version was already in development, now says the project has made significant progress and that the major hardware challenges have been addressed.

The latest update also claims Nintendo has been working alongside Rockstar and Take-Two to help make the port a reality. According to Nash Weedle, experts familiar with Nintendo Switch 2 have reportedly joined development efforts, although the game is not expected to launch on the handheld this year.

The report doesn’t specify exactly what changed technically, but it aligns with what developers have already demonstrated on Nintendo’s new hardware. Several visually demanding current-generation games are already targeting the console using NVIDIA’s DLSS upscaling technology.

Rockstar is also believed to have built scalable rendering pipelines for GTA 6, partly to accommodate the Xbox Series S version, which could make adapting the game to lower-powered hardware more feasible.

As of now, Rockstar Games, Nintendo, and Take-Two Interactive haven’t acknowledged a Nintendo Switch 2 version of GTA 6. That means this should still be treated as a rumor rather than a confirmation. In case you are unaware, GTA 6 will release on November 19th on XBOX Series X|S and PlayStation 5. There’s no word on the PC release, but rumors hint that it might be delayed.
