Why does Guild Wars 2 keep crashing?

Guild Wars 2 can crash for a variety of reasons. Some common causes of crashes in Guild Wars 2 include:

  • Game files corruption – Over time, game files may corrupt, causing the game to crash or freeze.
  • Outdated drivers – If you have outdated graphics cards or sound card drivers, it can cause the game to crash or have other performance issues.
  • Overheating – If your computer is overheating, it can cause the game to crash.
  • Outdated game client – If the game client is outdated, it can cause compatibility issues, resulting in crashes or other performance issues.
  • System resources – If your computer is running low on system resources such as RAM or CPU, it can cause the game to crash or have other performance issues.
  • Third-party software conflicts – Some third-party software, such as firewalls, antivirus programs, and game boosters, can conflict with the game and cause it to crash.

How can I fix Guild Wars 2 if it keeps crashing?

1. Update your drivers

Guildwars is a pretty old game, but the constant updates mean that the game has evolved a lot since it was first released, and so have the system requirements for running it properly.

That being said, just because the game is from 2012 doesn’t mean a 2012 PC will cut it.

However, if your PC is that old but was top-end in those days, then a complete round of driver updates may suffice to run the latest Guild Wars 2.

However, it’s hard to find the correct drivers, especially if your hardware is older, and that is when an excellent third-party solution such as DriverFix makes for a great addition to your digital library.

Powered by a library of 18 million drivers, this tool will scan your PC, download whatever drivers it deems necessary, and install them for you in one go.

2. Repair your game files

  1. Locate your Gw2.exe file; this should be located in your Guild Wars 2 install directory:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Guild Wars 2
  2. Right-click on the file and select Create shortcut.
  3. Change the name of the shortcut to Guild Wars 2 Repair., then right-click on the shortcut and select Properties.
  4. Look at the Target line and add –repair to the end.
  5. It should now look something like this:
    "C:GamesGuild Wars 2gw2.exe" -repair
  6. Select Ok.

Your game client should start repairing itself, and Guild Wars 2 should usually launch after it is done.

3. Perform a Clean Boot
