Halo Infinite Gets Surprise Update With New Firefight: Gauntlet PvE Mode

Available now on Xbox and PC

Halo Gauntlet

Microsoft unexpectedly released a new update for Halo Infinite, adding a brand-new PvE experience called Firefight: Gauntlet. The update weighs around 10GB across Xbox and PC and introduces a more intense co-op survival mode focused on teamwork, scaling difficulty, and replayability.

The addition comes as a surprise because Halo Infinite previously received messaging that suggested major content updates were winding down. Instead, players now have an entirely new mode built around long-form PvE combat.

Firefight: Gauntlet adds a new survival challenge

Firefight: Gauntlet is a 4-player co-op survival mode where teams battle through five different arenas filled with endless enemy waves. To advance, players must defeat powerful arena “champions” before moving forward.

Each arena becomes progressively harder, pushing teams to constantly adapt their strategy. The mode also includes randomized elements, meaning no two runs play out exactly the same.

Players can improve their Spartan during matches by upgrading several attributes, including damage, recovery, resistance, and movement speed. The update also introduces a new AI Aggro system that tracks which player enemies focus on during combat.

The Harbinger appears if players fall behind

343 Industries designed the mode around fast-paced, high-pressure gameplay. If teams spend too much time inside an arena, The Harbinger eventually joins the fight and increases the challenge even further.

Players receive a short 30-second break between arenas to resupply before entering the next combat zone.

The overall structure heavily emphasizes coordination and communication, especially during later waves where enemies become far more aggressive.

Halo Infinite support continues unexpectedly

The update suggests Microsoft and Halo Studios still plan to support Halo Infinite despite ongoing work on future Halo projects. The scaling difficulty system and randomized mechanics also add more replay value for longtime players looking for tougher PvE content.

In other Halo news, data miners recently discovered a possible release date for Halo Campaign Evolved. Reports also claim that remakes of Halo 2 and Halo 3 remain in early development.
