As you know, Microsoft and FTC have a long history, but after legal troubles, it seems that Microsoft and Apple are catching a break in the EU.
It seems that the two companies, or at least some of their services, won’t be affected by the Digital Markets Act.
Only a handful of services are exempt from this law
According to the Business Times, a couple of services from Apple and Microsoft won’t be subjected to the EU’s anti-monopolization law.
After a recent probe, it was determined that their services don’t have enough power for market abuse, so they won’t be affected by the Digital Markets Act.
However, it’s not all good news for these two companies, and the exemption applies only to iMessage, Bing search engine, Edge browser, and advertising services.
Other services, such as Windows, LinkedIn, iOS, App Store, and Safari browser are subject to legal regulations.
This isn’t anything new for the EU, and many tech giants, including Meta, Alphabet, Amazon, and ByteDance are all affected by this law.
If you’re not familiar, the Digital Markets Act prevents companies from favoriting their products thus preventing monopolization of the market.
Overall, this is good news for Microsoft and Apple and they have greeted this decision.
