Instagram Unveils Your Algorithm for Customizing Reels Content
If you ever wanted to tweak your Instagram algorithm, the platform now offers a direct way to do it.
As reported by Neowin, Instagram has introduced a new feature called Your Algorithm, designed to give users more transparency and control over the topics that influence their Reels recommendations.
How Instagram’s Your Algorithm Control Works
The new tool uses AI to display the interests the algorithm believes you care about based on your activity. Users can remove topics they no longer want to see or add new ones to better tailor their Reels feed.
You can access the feature from the Reels section by tapping a new icon that looks like two hearts with sliders. Instagram generates the topic list using signals such as watched videos, likes, and interactions, then lets you fine-tune how strongly each topic affects recommendations.
Meta says this change aims to help users understand why certain content appears in their feed and to give them more direct influence over what they see. The company also plans to extend similar algorithm controls to other areas of the app, including the Explore tab.
Rollout Limitations and Broader Meta Developments
The feature is rolling out globally, but it currently supports only English. Because of that, it may not work consistently across all videos or accounts yet.
While the update marks progress toward transparency, it arrives as Meta faces internal and regulatory pressure. Reports indicate the company is preparing layoffs within Reality Labs, its metaverse and AR/VR division.
Across Meta’s wider ecosystem, WhatsApp remains in focus as well. The company is working on new parental control features, while Brazilian regulators continue antitrust probes related to AI chatbot restrictions.
Together, these moves show Meta pushing to give users more control over AI-driven experiences while navigating growing business and regulatory challenges.
