Instagram users were suddenly left staring at a broken app. Feeds stopped loading, messages refused to send, and many couldn’t even refresh the platform. The disruption didn’t last long, but it was enough to send thousands searching for answers.

Thousands reported Instagram issues within minutes

Downdetector recorded a sharp surge in complaints during the outage. Reports climbed to more than 5,500 within minutes, indicating the disruption affected a large number of users. The spike appeared suddenly before reports began falling as the service recovered.

Many users said Instagram wouldn’t load new posts or Stories. Others reported problems logging in, refreshing their feed, or sending Direct Messages. Some users also experienced unexpected error messages while opening the app.

Service appears to be recovering

That being said, the outage appears to have been short-lived. Reports on Downdetector dropped quickly, suggesting Instagram’s services started returning to normal shortly after the spike. If Instagram is still not working for you, restarting the app or waiting a few minutes may resolve the issue. Server-side outages can sometimes take longer to clear for every user.
