How to fix the INVALID_CALLBACK_STACK_ADDRESS BSoD

The INVALID_CALLBACK_STACK_ADDRESSย is a Windows error code with the valueย 0x000001CD.ย This error typically occurs when the callback stack is a user mode address, which is considered illegal by the system. It often results in a Blue Screen of Death (BSoD). The error can be triggered by corrupted system files, faulty drivers and software bugs.

The first approach is to make sure that your OS is updated. Also, if you installed any software prior to INVALID_CALLBACK_STACK_ADDRESS showing up, try uninstalling it and se if that fixes the problem.

How do I fix the INVALID_CALLBACK_STACK_ADDRESS BSoD?

1. Update or reinstall the problematic driver

  1. Right-click theย Startย button and selectย Device Manager.
  2. Click on the component categories one by one to expand them, and look for a driver with a yellow exclamation mark next to it.
  3. Once located, right-click the driver and chooseย Update driverย from the context menu.
  4. Clickย Search automatically for drivers.
  5. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the process.

If you can’t see any yellow exclamation marks, start by looking for a driver you installed recently, because that might be causing this issue. Also, if Windows cannot find a driver for your device, the best way would be to download it manually from the manufacturerโ€™s website.

This whole process might take a lot of time and effort, so we recommend using aย driver updater tool. They automatically scan your system for problematic drivers and automatically update or replace them with just a few clicks.

2. Run SFC and DISM scans

  1. Press theย Windowsย key, typeย cmdย in the search box, and clickย Run as administratorย to launch Command Prompt with administrative rights. ย
  2. Type the following command to scan and repair the corrupted system files and pressย Enter: sfc /scannow
  3. Wait for the command to execute, copy & paste the following command to repair the Windows OS files, and hitย Enter: DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
  4. Once the scan is complete, restart your computer to confirm the changes.

3. Restore Your System to a previous point

  1. Pressย Winย +ย Rย to open theย Runย console, typeย rstruiย and pressย Enter.
  2. In the pop-upย System Restoreย window, clickย Next.
  3. In the next window, choose a restore point that has a date prior to the BSoD error started occurring and clickย Next.
  4. Then follow the on-screen instructions to complete the system restore process.

This should restore your system to a working condition and resolve the INVALID_CALLBACK_STACK_ADDRESS BSoD error. However, it only works if you have saved a restore point before that.

4. Perform a clean boot:

  1. Pressย Windows + R, typeย msconfig, and press Enter.
  2. In the System Configuration window, go to the Services tab, check Hide all Microsoft services, and then click Disable all.
  3. Go to the Startup tab and click Open Task Manager.
  4. Disable all startup items.
  5. Close Task Manager and click OK in the System Configuration window, then restart your computer.

This solution doesn’t directly fix the problem, but it helps you further troubleshoot the issue. The system will boot up with a minimal number of drivers and processes so if the BSoD is caused by software, you can get to the bottom of it.

Hopefully, by performing the solutions above, you got rid of the INVALID_CALLBACK_STACK_ADDRESS BSoD and now your PC works fine.

If these steps donโ€™t resolve the issue, you might need to seek further assistance from a professional or contact Microsoft Support for more specialized help.

You may also perform a Windows 11 clean installation and if the problem persists, you should actually look for hardware issues.
