Is Fortnite Down or Not Working? Here's Why Servers Are Offline Right Now

Fortnite players looking to jump into a match today will have to wait a little longer. Epic Games has taken the game’s online services offline as part of its scheduled v41.30 update rollout, making the battle royale temporarily unavailable worldwide.

Fortnite is down because Epic is preparing to roll out v41.30

Epic Games began scheduled maintenance for the v41.30 update at 4:00 AM ET (8:00 UTC). Matchmaking was disabled 30 minutes earlier, preventing players from entering new matches before the servers went offline.

Unlike an unexpected outage, this downtime is planned. Epic uses these maintenance windows to deploy new game content, backend improvements, gameplay balancing, and server updates before bringing Fortnite back online.

The Epic Games status page currently lists Game Services, Login, Matchmaking, Parties, Friends and Messaging, Voice Chat, Stats and Leaderboards, Item Shop, and Fortnite Crew as Under Maintenance. LEGO Fortnite, Fortnite Festival, and Rocket Racing matchmaking are also temporarily unavailable. Meanwhile, the Fortnite website remains operational.

What’s included in the v41.30 update?

The latest patch introduces fresh content for Chapter 7 Season 3, headlined by the Spider-Man: Brand New Day collaboration. Players can also expect new Sprites, additional cosmetics including The Punisher, gameplay improvements, and updates across multiple Fortnite experiences once servers return.

Epic has not provided an exact time for the maintenance to end. However, major Fortnite updates typically last two to three hours, although the window can be extended if developers encounter unexpected issues during deployment.

If you’re seeing login errors or can’t connect to matchmaking, there’s likely nothing wrong with your account or internet connection. The only solution is to wait until Epic completes the maintenance and restores all Fortnite services.
