Joy-Con 2 Sparks Backlash as Switch 2 Colors Go Almost Invisible

joycon 2 new colors

If you follow Nintendo Switch 2 news closely, you likely noticed Nintendo’s newly announced Joy-Con 2 controllers. While the fresh colors initially looked exciting, many fans now criticize the design for a simple reason: you can barely see the new colors during normal use.

Color accents most players will never notice

Nintendo placed the new color accents on the inner edge of the Joy-Con 2 controllers. When you attach them to the console in handheld mode, that colored section stays hidden against the Switch 2 body, as noted by IGN in the latest video.

Since many players use handheld mode daily, the updated design almost disappears during gameplay. You can still spot small color highlights around the analog sticks, but those accents remain subtle. During fast-paced games, most players will never notice them at all.

Docked mode shows the full design

The only way to properly enjoy the new Joy-Con 2 colors requires docking the console and detaching the controllers. In that setup, the inner accents finally stand out. For players who rarely dock their system, that design benefit feels limited.

Fans wanted full-color controllers

Many fans expected fully colored Joy-Con 2 models rather than standard controllers with minor accent tones. As a result, the update feels more cosmetic than meaningful. For owners whose original Joy-Cons still work well, the incentive to upgrade remains weak.

Timing raises more questions

Nintendo faces rising production costs for Switch 2 hardware, alongside reports of softer holiday sales compared to expectations. In that context, some fans question whether releasing subtly redesigned Joy-Con 2 controllers makes sense right now. For many players, the color difference simply does not justify an extra purchase.
