KB5083631 Boosts System Stability, Reduces Microsoft Store Errors & Improves Core Features
With the latest Windows 11 24H2 and 25H2 builds, Microsoft isn’t just making File Explorer Snappier or adding Xbox mode, it is also rolling out a wave of under-the-hood improvements across core areas of the operating system. Starting with the Microsoft Store, the KB5083631 update reduces unexpected errors during app downloads and installs, specifically addressing issues related to error codes like 0x80070057, 0x80240008, and 0x80073d28.

Moving on, the Leelawadee UI font family has been updated to better support Thai, Lao, Khmer, and Lontara scripts, with improved glyph positioning and rendering. On the audio side, compatibility with third-party drivers using midisrv.exe has been improved, which should reduce inconsistencies for certain setups.
Microsoft is also refining reliability across the system. The taskbar’s system tray should now load more consistently, while Windows Hello sees upgrades to both facial recognition and fingerprint persistence after updates. Storage performance also gets a boost, especially when navigating large volumes in advanced settings. Notably, the FAT32 formatting limit via command line has been expanded from 32GB to 2TB.
That being said, performance optimizations continue in the background. Delivery Optimization now uses memory more efficiently, reducing the chances of unexpected spikes. Meanwhile, display and graphics settings also benefit from better handling of color profiles on supported monitors.
For enterprise and specialized setups, kiosk mode is getting easier to configure, especially when Microsoft Edge is involved. Additionally, Microsoft has also improved performance of launching startup apps after boot. Last but not least, this update “brings underlying changes to help improve explorer.exe reliability, including on login, when interacting with taskbar flyouts and task view, when unpinning items from File Explorer’s Quick Access, and more.”
Speaking of other updates dropped today, Dev and Beta channel Insiders get KB5083726 and KB5083728. Meanwhile, Canary Insiders on optional 29500 build series receive Xbox Mode and more improvements via Build 29570.1000. Finally, a separate Canary update, KB5083725, fixes app sign-in issue and improves overall system experience.
