Latest Microsoft Edge Update Makes it Easier to Hide Copilot

Microsoft Edge 144 update is now rolling out to all users in the Stable Channel, bringing noticeable usability, performance, and platform-level changes.

According to Neowin, Microsoft has released Microsoft Edge version 144.0.3719.82 worldwide, continuing its fast update cycle after recently fixing a major Edge security issue.

Edge 144 makes Copilot easier to hide

One of the most visible changes in Edge 144 focuses on Microsoft Copilot. Users can now right-click the Copilot icon in the toolbar and select Hide Copilot. This action opens Settings, where users can manage the Copilot visibility toggle directly, without navigating through deeper menus.

WebGL changes target virtual and headless systems

Edge 144 also updates how WebGL works across platforms. On Windows systems without a physical GPU, Edge now uses WARP instead of SwiftShader, mainly benefiting headless environments and virtual machines. On non-Windows platforms, Edge now requires a physical GPU to support WebGL.

Performance, autofill, and visual search improvements

Microsoft has renamed Efficiency mode to Energy saver. Efficiency mode for PC gaming now appears as PC gaming boost inside browser performance settings.

Autofill also receives a quality-focused update. Edge now prompts users to confirm whether an address should be saved when filling out forms, which helps prevent unwanted or incorrect Autofill entries.

Another addition allows users to send images directly to Bing Visual Search from the Edge search bar on Windows. The feature supports image identification, text extraction and translation, and product discovery.

Edge 144 fixes multiple security vulnerabilities and resolves a browser crash that occurred when users uploaded files from local folders.

More changes are on the way. Microsoft is removing Collections from Edge, while Copilot continues expanding with features like Copilot Real Talk that are rolling out globally.
