Latest Nintendo Switch & Switch 2 Update Adds eShop Changes & Accessibility Features

Nintendo has officially rolled out a fresh software update for both the Switch 2 and the original Switch, and while the version number is the same, the changes are anything but same. Version 22.5.0 is now available globally, marking the first system update for both consoles since April. If the update hasn’t popped up for you automatically, you can install it manually by heading to System Settings > System > System Update.

Nintendo Switch 2 update 22.5.0: What’s new?

Nintendo’s latest firmware for Switch 2 focuses on accessibility. Version 22.5.0 (Released June 15, 2026):

• Added Dutch and Russian to “Text to Speech” languages in Accessibility.
• Added Dutch and Russian as languages for “Change Speech ⇔ Text During GameChat” in Accessibility.
• General system stability improvements to enhance the user’s experience.

In simple terms, more players can now use voice accessibility features and GameChat translation tools in their native language.

Original Nintendo Switch update 22.5.0: Bigger changes land

The original Switch gets the more noticeable update this time around. Version 22.5.0 (Released June 15, 2026):

• The Nintendo eShop layout has been redesigned.
  • The Nintendo eShop color will now reflect the theme color if your theme in System Settings is set to “Basic Dark.”
• User-Verification PIN can now be used to confirm when “Accessing Nintendo eShop” and “Using Saved Payment Methods.”
• Added the ability to rewind 10 seconds/advance 10 seconds with the ZL and ZR Buttons when watching a full-screen video in News or Nintendo eShop.
• General system stability improvements to enhance the user’s experience.

The new PIN verification option adds an extra layer of protection for purchases, while the redesigned eShop finally brings a more consistent look for players using the system-wide dark theme. In a separate news, Nintendo also recently confirmed that it will launch a refreshed version of Switch 2 with a replacable battery in the EU.
