Latest PowerToys Update Resolves Quick Access Crashes and Command Palette Problems
Microsoft has released PowerToys v0.100.1, a small but important patch update that addresses several bugs and stability issues introduced in PowerToys v0.100.0. The release focuses on improving reliability across multiple utilities, including Keyboard Manager, Power Display, Command Palette, Quick Access, Shortcut Guide, and ZoomIt.
One of the most notable fixes targets Keyboard Manager, where remapped modifier keys were incorrectly sent as system-key events. This caused unexpected behavior in some applications.
Power Display and Quick Access receive important fixes
Power Display also received attention in this release. Microsoft fixed a bug that prevented some monitors from waking correctly from standby when users selected the On option in monitor power-state controls. The update additionally improves built-in display detection and brightness control on dual-GPU laptops where the internal display is connected to a discrete graphics processor.
Quick Access users should notice improved stability as Microsoft fixed crashes that could occur during launch due to unhandled XAML exceptions.
Other fixes in PowerToys v0.100.1 include:
- Color Picker no longer displays its main window inside the zoomed-in picker view.
- Shortcut Guide no longer crashes when users switch between sidebar sections.
- Shortcut Guide now renders number keys correctly in shortcut manifests.
- Microsoft added a new Postman shortcut manifest.
- Bundled shortcut manifests now use a literal number-key token for consistent rendering.
Command Palette improvements and PowerToys Run fixes
Microsoft also delivered several improvements to the Command Palette. The company fixed Run history initialization problems in AOT builds and resolved an issue where the Performance Monitor dock item could display “???” after a restart.
The Hibernate command now uses the correct icon instead of the Sleep icon, while the “pin to dock” dialog is limited to displays where the dock feature is enabled.
PowerToys Run also received a compatibility fix for Visual Studio Code. The launcher can once again discover VS Code workspaces after Microsoft moved recently opened workspace information to shared storage.
Additional fixes include:
- Keyboard Manager now correctly handles modifier keys remapped to non-modifier keys.
- Quick Access launch crashes have been resolved.
- Shortcut Guide stability and rendering improvements.
- ZoomIt fixes a race condition affecting audio initialization during video recording.
PowerToys continues to evolve after v0.100 milestone
PowerToys v0.100.1 arrives shortly after the major v0.100.0 release, which introduced several enhancements across Microsoft’s collection of advanced Windows utilities. While this latest release does not add new features, it focuses on polishing existing functionality and addressing issues reported by users.
In other Microsoft news, the company recently relaunched the Surface Pro and Surface Laptop with 8GB RAM configurations, a move that has sparked discussion among Windows enthusiasts about entry-level hardware specifications.
