AMD and Intel dominate the current CPU market, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t any competitors available.
It seems that homegrown Chinese CPUs are catching up in performance to their global counterparts, and speaking of which, Loongson has just announced two new models.
Newly announced Loongson CPUs can allegedly rival Intel 10th Gen CPUs
Loongson has revealed its next-generation octa-core CPUs, 3B6600 and 3B7000, that are intended for the Chinese market, as Tom’s Hardware writes.
It is no surprise to see more Chinese CPUs after China banned Intel and AMD chips in government PCs.
According to the manufacturer, its CPUs are behind the competition regarding multicore performance, however, single-core performance has been improved, and it’s allegedly 20 times better than before.
Regarding the available cores, the CPUs offer the following:
- 3B6600 – eight LA854 CPU cores and LG200 iGPU clocked at 3.0 GHz
- 3B7000 – eight LA864 cores clocked at 3.5 GHz, undisclosed iGPU
Other features include the following:
Supported interfaces: | PCIe 4.0, SATA III, USB 3.0, GMAC, HDMI output |
Graphics: | OpenCL 3.0 computing and OpenGL 4.0 graphics acceleration |
Graphics performance: | up to 256 GFLOPs, up to 1TFlops with discrete graphics |
RAM support: | SRAM, SDRAM, DDR2, DDR3, and DDR4 |
While these CPUs sound decent, they are outshined by AMD and Intel with ease. As for availability, we expect to see them available in China someday in the future.
In other news, China has acquired Nvidia AI chips, circumventing the US export ban.
