Microsoft 365 weekly update: New features for Teams and Outlook

The Microsoft 365 roadmap website continually provides us with fresh updates, showcasing Microsoft’s ongoing efforts to enhance productivity and accessibility.

This June, Microsoft 365 will introduce a new wave of enhancements across Teams and Outlook, with a focus on AI integration, productivity boosts, user personalization, and admin controls.

What can you expect?

Copilot-powered productivity

  • In Teams, Copilot will now summarize transferred calls and provide assistance in meetings and calls, as well as offer AI support in the admin portal.
  • In Outlook, Copilot will rewrite selected email text, summarize attachments, prepare for meetings, and assist with role-based scenarios, such as sales.
  • A Copilot Prompt Gallery will now display the number of likes on prompts, helping users quickly find the most useful ones across Microsoft 365 apps.

Better Teams experience

  • You will get call waiting beeps, the ability to customize keyboard shortcuts, and a new calendar UI for education.
  • Threads in channels, custom ringtones, and multiple emoji reactions to bring flexibility and make chats and calls more engaging.
  • You will get background decoration, Town halls, and Copilot capabilities in GCC, DoD, and Education environments.
  • Screen management for Town Halls and better call diagnostics for BYOD rooms to enhance hybrid meeting control.

Outlook gets a makeover

  • The Editor (Spellcheck and Proofing) will soon be available in the standard and GCC environments.
  • The Offline Calendar update will enable you to create, edit, and delete events offline.
  • You can now customize mail notification sounds, drag and drop attachments between accounts, and access advanced calendar navigation.
  • PST file support has been improved; you can now export mailboxes, reply, forward, and view profile cards for PST-stored contacts.

Smarter Security settings

  • Outlook: You can select offline sync duration, improve contact interactions, and unsubscribe while reporting spam in a single click. To strengthen data protection, you now get label inheritance from email attachments, auto-expanding archives, and warnings for unverified senders.
  • Teams: Admins gain new controls for Town Hall access, and organizations also receive the ability to block external users more effectively.
