Microsoft Cancels Planned Teams and Outlook Features

Microsoft has canceled two planned features for Microsoft Teams and Outlook, ending their development before either capability reached general availability.

The company has not explained why it withdrew the Teams inline search feature or the Copilot-powered search suggestions planned for Outlook.

Both changes now appear as canceled entries in the Microsoft 365 Roadmap.

Teams Inline Search Will Not Launch

Microsoft planned to add an inline search tool directly to the Teams compose box.

The feature would have allowed users to search for and insert files, chats, channels, and meetings through @mentions while writing a message.

The company originally planned to begin rolling out the feature in September 2026. However, Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 564612 now states that Microsoft is not moving forward with the feature at this time.

Microsoft has not said whether it could revisit the idea in a future Teams update.

Outlook Copilot Search Suggestions Also Canceled

Microsoft has also canceled plans to introduce Copilot-powered suggestions within Outlook search.

The AI feature would have suggested relevant content and helped users locate emails and other information more quickly.

Microsoft began tracking the capability under Roadmap ID 559990 in April 2026. The company has now withdrawn the planned rollout without providing a reason.

The decision adds to recent uncertainty surrounding several upcoming Outlook changes.

Microsoft recently paused its plan to remove the People Card from Outlook Classic. However, the company continues to expand Copilot support in the older desktop application.

Copilot is still expected to arrive in Outlook Classic in August 2026, bringing AI-powered email drafting and other assistance features.

Microsoft has not confirmed whether the canceled Teams and Outlook capabilities will return in a different form.
