Copilot Is Coming to Outlook Classic in August 2026

Copilot coming to Outlook Classic will give users a new way to access Microsoft’s AI assistant directly from the email client. The feature will begin rolling out in August 2026.

Microsoft continues to expand Copilot across its Office apps, including features that can help users draft emails in Outlook Classic.

New Copilot Entry Point for Outlook Classic

Microsoft has added the change to the Microsoft 365 Roadmap under feature ID 567007.

The company plans to introduce a dedicated Copilot entry point inside Outlook Classic, making the assistant easier to open while reading or writing emails.

Copilot will provide information and suggestions based on the currently open content. It can also use relevant context from the wider Microsoft 365 environment.

Microsoft Wants a Consistent Copilot Experience

Microsoft wants Copilot to work consistently across its Office suite.

The new Outlook Classic integration should give users an experience similar to Copilot features available in other Microsoft 365 applications.

This approach could reduce the need to switch between applications when drafting messages, reviewing information, or working with Microsoft 365 content.

Copilot Button Placement Remains Unclear

Microsoft has not confirmed where the new Copilot button will appear in Outlook Classic.

The company previously tested a floating Copilot button inside Office apps. However, Microsoft later removed that implementation following negative user feedback.

The upcoming entry point may use a different location or design to make Copilot accessible without interfering with the Outlook interface.

Outlook Classic Copilot Rollout Starts in August 2026

Microsoft expects to begin rolling out the new Copilot entry point in August 2026.

The company plans to make it available across all Outlook Classic environments. However, Microsoft 365 Roadmap dates can change because of technical problems, testing results, or customer feedback.

In other Outlook news, Microsoft recently paused the planned removal of the Outlook Classic People Card. The company has also replaced Outlook Meeting Insights with a paid Copilot feature.
