Microsoft Confirms Copilot Is Going Missing in Classic Outlook

Copilot is disappearing from classic Outlook for some Windows users, with Microsoft confirming that a new bug can remove Copilot Chat and other Copilot entry points from the interface.

The issue comes as Copilot is coming to Outlook Classic, including support for AI-powered email drafting.

Copilot buttons can disappear from classic Outlook

Microsoft has confirmed that the problem affects classic Outlook for Windows Build 20026.20182 or later.

Users with either Copilot Chat (Basic) or Microsoft 365 Copilot may encounter the issue.

The Copilot button above the ribbon can disappear completely. Users may also lose the Copilot icon from the left-side app bar and the More Apps section.

In some cases, Copilot remains visible under Add Apps, but clicking Open does nothing. Trying to restore Copilot through ribbon customization can also leave the command unavailable or grayed out.

Microsoft is investigating the cause

Microsoft says the Outlook team continues to investigate the problem.

Its current analysis suggests Outlook may fail to locate a specific MAPI property in the null profile section. That failure prevents the Outlook Copilot component from properly saving Copilot-related settings.

As a result, Outlook may stop displaying Copilot entry points even for users who have access to the feature.

Microsoft recommends new Outlook as a workaround

Microsoft currently recommends switching to New Outlook for Windows or using Outlook on the web until it resolves the issue.

The company continues encouraging users to move away from classic Outlook, although it recently paused the removal of the People Card in Outlook Classic following user feedback.
