Microsoft has acknowledged a new issue caused by the June 2026 Patch Tuesday updates that affects the Recycle Bin across multiple supported versions of Windows.

According to Microsoft, the problem appears after installing update KB5094126. Users who attempt to permanently delete files from the Recycle Bin may notice that the confirmation dialog displays the file’s internal name instead of the actual file name.

The company says the bug is limited to the confirmation prompt and does not affect the file itself. The correct file name continues to appear in the Recycle Bin list view, and restoring the file returns it with its original name intact.

Recycle Bin Confirmation Dialog Shows Wrong File Name

When users permanently delete an item from the Recycle Bin, Windows normally displays a confirmation message showing the file name before removal. After installing KB5094126, that dialog may instead show an internal system name.

Microsoft stressed that the issue is cosmetic and does not result in file corruption, data loss, or incorrect file restoration. The problem only affects the text shown in the deletion confirmation window.

Users can still verify the correct file name directly within the Recycle Bin before deleting the item.

Nearly All Supported Windows Versions Affected

The issue affects most currently supported Windows client and server releases.

Microsoft has not provided a complete list of impacted versions, but the company confirmed that the bug is widespread across supported Windows platforms that received the June 2026 security updates.

At the moment, there is no publicly available workaround for consumers.

Fix in Development

Microsoft says it is actively working on a fix and plans to deliver it in a future Windows update.

The company has not yet confirmed whether the resolution will arrive through the next Patch Tuesday release or through an out-of-band update before then.

Commercial customers who need a workaround can contact Microsoft Support for Business for additional guidance. Microsoft has not publicly disclosed the workaround details.

Another Patch Tuesday Issue

The Recycle Bin bug is the latest issue linked to June 2026 Patch Tuesday updates.

Earlier this month, Microsoft acknowledged problems affecting the launch of some Microsoft Office applications after installing recent security updates. The company is continuing to investigate and address those reports.

In separate Patch Tuesday-related news, Microsoft recently resolved installation failures affecting Windows Server 2016 systems that attempted to deploy the June 2026 security update KB5094122 without first installing the required May 2026 update.
