Microsoft Confirms Samsung Gallery is Losing Direct OneDrive Sync Soon
The cutoff date is September 30, 2026
Samsung and Microsoft are quietly changing how photo syncing works on Galaxy smartphones, and for a lot of users, it can be quite frustrating. In an official document spotted by Gizchina, Microsoft has confirmed that after September 30, 2026, Samsung Gallery will officially stop syncing directly with OneDrive. Once the change goes live, Galaxy users will no longer see OneDrive-backed photos directly inside the Samsung Gallery app.
Samsung Gallery and OneDrive are officially splitting up
While new users already will not be able to connect Samsung Gallery with OneDrive after September 30, existing ones will need to manually switch over to OneDrive Camera Backup if they still want photos and videos uploading automatically to the cloud. The important part here is that your files themselves are not being deleted.
Microsoft says every photo and video already backed up to OneDrive will remain untouched and accessible through the OneDrive app, OneDrive website, or other connected devices.
Samsung users now need to rely fully on the OneDrive app
Samsung Gallery users now will have to open the OneDrive app itself for backup controls, syncing, and cloud photo management. To continue automatic uploads, Microsoft says users must:
- Open the OneDrive app
- Log into their Microsoft account
- Enable Camera Backup
- Grant full photo and video access permissions
Only then will new images continue uploading automatically. Interestingly, Microsoft still heavily pushes OneDrive as the preferred cloud photo solution for Galaxy users despite removing the direct Samsung Gallery integration entirely.
Not to forget, Samsung Notes and Microsoft OneNote sync is also set to end starting this August.
