Microsoft Copilot is down and not working for some users right now with failed queries and an error that prevents the AI assistant from responding normally. Microsoft has also acknowledged the problem through its official status page.

Microsoft Copilot users hit response error

Microsoft currently lists Copilot under “Service degradation” and says some users may not receive responses to their queries and instead receive an error message. The company’s latest update was posted at 3:20:33 PM UTC on Thursday, September 17, 2026.

Users affected by the latest Copilot outage are seeing the following message when trying to use the AI assistant.

“I’m sorry, I’m having trouble responding to requests right now. Let’s try this again in a bit.”

The error indicates that Copilot is currently unable to process some requests. It is unclear whether every Copilot feature is affected or whether the problem is limited to certain queries and users.

Meanwhile, outage reports have also jumped sharply. Downdetector shows an increasing spike with over 650 reports at the time of writing compared with a normal baseline of around 7 reports. That suggests the problem became significantly more noticeable among users during the evening. If others around you can use Copilot but you can’t, check our guide to fix Copilot issues.

This is a developing story…
